‘Pork Is NOT Human(e)’ Campaign
Around 10.9 million pigs are slaughtered in the UK each year. 88% are killed using a high concentration of CO2 in purpose-built GAS CHAMBERS. Pigs violently struggle before losing consciousness as the gas forms an acid on their eyes, nostrils, mouths and lungs and burns their insides.
Most farmed pigs lives begin with a sow being restrained in a ‘rape rack’, and up to 90 per cent of sows in the UK are artificially inseminated as it is deemed more productive.
Farrowing is the name given to the process of giving birth in pigs. The cycle of continual farrowing for a sow begins when she is just six to eight months old. The farrowing crate is a metal cage only centimetres larger than the sow’s body, and is used for the majority of British sows. She is unable to turn around, and can scarcely take a step forward or backwards.
Tail docking, castration, and teeth clipping are just a few of the barbaric practices used to farm these fully sentient beings, often without anaesthesia. Only two per cent of pigs spend the entirety of their short lives outdoors. Animal Rights organisations have exposed pigs suffering from extreme lameness, injury and abscesses in Red Tractor approved farms.
If it’s not ok for humans, it’s not ok for pigs.
End speciesism.
